June 24 – July 1, 2024 · 8 Days · Girona → Asturias (Oviedo)

Spain’s Sea to Sky Tour is a journey that blends Mediterranean charm with the dramatic beauty of northern Spain’s green mountains. From the smooth, rolling roads around Girona to the legendary climbs of Asturias, riders travelled through two completely different cycling worlds — both spectacular, both unforgettable.

Across seven riding days, the group tackled iconic summits, coastal ribbons of tarmac, national park ascents, and some of the most famous climbs ever seen in La Vuelta. Here’s how the adventure unfolded.

Here’s the full recap of an extraordinary week on two wheels.

📊 Total Distance & Elevation Summary

📍 Our two Iconic Cycling Bases

1️⃣ Girona — Mediterranean Cycling Heaven

A world-famous cycling hub known for smooth roads, tree-lined climbs, rolling countryside, medieval architecture and easy access to classic routes like Rocacorba, Els Àngels and the stunning Tossa de Mar coast road. The perfect warm-up region before heading into the high mountains.

A dramatic contrast to Girona’s Mediterranean vibe. From Oviedo, riders tackled Spain’s most legendary climbs: Angliru, Lagos de Covadonga, Cobertoria, San Lorenzo and Alto de la Cubilla. Rugged, wild, steep and breathtaking — Asturias delivered the “Sky” in Sea to Sky.

Tour Highlights

The Spanish Sea to Sky Tour unfolded as a journey across two completely different cycling worlds — the golden Mediterranean landscapes of Girona and the rugged, emerald mountains of Asturias. The week began in Girona, where riders tackled iconic local favourites like Rocacorba, Els Àngels, Santa Pellaia and the breathtaking Sant Grau to Tossa de Mar coastal road.

Every day offered a new mix of forested climbs, rolling farmland, medieval villages and sparkling sea views. One client summed it up perfectly while sipping coffee in Tossa de Mar: “This feels like cycling heaven — calm roads, sunshine, and scenery that keeps getting better.”

The tour then transitioned north into the dramatic, cloud-kissed mountains of Asturias — a completely new world of steep gradients, deep valleys and raw natural beauty. The group climbed one of Spain’s true legends, Lagos de Covadonga,

before taking on the infamous Angliru, a climb so steep and iconic that it left riders emotional at the summit. “I’ve never ridden anything like that — brutal, beautiful and unforgettable,” said one awestruck rider. The high-mountain energy continued with the long, elegant ascents of Cobertoria, San Lorenzo, and the spectacular Alto de la Cubilla, often compared to a miniature Dolomites for its sweeping green valleys and jagged limestone ridges.

While the riding was epic, the atmosphere off the bike elevated the experience even further. Dinners in Girona’s old town, lakeside coffees, Asturian cider houses, and warm evenings in Oviedo built a sense of camaraderie that grew stronger with every climb. The diversity of landscapes and culture — Catalan villages, Mediterranean beaches, Romanesque churches, alpine summits — made the week feel like multiple tours in one.

By the final day, riders had completed over 600 km and climbed more than 13,000 metres, but the journey was about much more than numbers. It was about discovering Spain’s incredible variety, sharing challenges and victories, and experiencing the magic of cycling through landscapes that constantly shift in colour, shape and mood. As one client's said in Oviedo on the final night: “From the sea to the sky, this tour gave us everything.”
